Alex Pella
Alex Pella is a spanish sailor, whom achieved magnificent results in his career in the course au large, starting with the Mini 6.5 in 2003, to nowadays, where he has wins like RORC Transatlantic Race, Panerai Transat Classique, the Transat Jacques Vabre and many more.
He does not only racing, but he also like to compete for world record, in fact, he broke the absolute round-the-world speed sailing record, known as the Jules Verne Trophy, aboard the sophisticated maxi-multihull IDEC 3. They circumnavigated the planet in 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds.
Alex's next challenge will be to attempt the absolute record of circumnavigation to the west, that is, against the prevailing winds and currents. Unlike the Jules Verne Trophy, this new oceanic challenge is inspired by a true story whose origin and destination will be in Andalusia (Sanlúcar de Barrameda). The greatest maritime adventure in history, which occurred more than five hundred years ago and starred a Spanish sailor, from whom the JS Elcano Oceanic Trophy takes its name.
We are proud to announce that we will accompany Alex in this new adventure as he, and his team, wished to have Ropeye onboard for its incredible durability.
He says: “I will sail for a long period of time, under constant stress because I need to sail the boat to its maximum capability, this means that I have to allocate the minimum possible time to fix and/or substitute rig onboard. I know Ropeye is trustworthy, reliable and easy.”
