Foiling Week
The foiling week took place in Malcesine, Italy, from June 24 to the 30th.
Its a global event where the focus is on fast foiling boats and boards as well their their sailors, designers, manufacturers and followers. We participated through the eyes of the team of the Politecnico di Torino, which at the event were presenting their new moth project.
They rig the boat with Ropeye, and found themself being “highly surprised on how easy it is to apply the products, the level of resistance under load, and … they are basically weightless!”
The sailing industry is shifting towards the direction of performing extremely fast sailing and leaving the spectator with the “wow effect”. In fact, even the American’s cup in now fully foiling.
Incredibly scenic to watch, the foiling week hoisted different classes of foiling boats, from the more well knows such as moth to the wasps, to Switch One Design, Birdyfish, Armstrong Foils, Azorean Whaler. However the event is not only pure sailing, it also offered clinics given from professional in the sector, or workshops and forum activities.
The foiling week has also a moral theme that brings along, trying to be eco-sustainable, gender equal and make a social impact. Our Polimi team told us the most impressive clinic was the World Sailing Female Coach Clinic “Steering the Course” by Katja Salskov-Iversen of ROCKWOOL Denmark SailGP Team, “she was inspiring” they said.
