Two Ropeye athletes get together to win the gold at Romaxdue
Francesco Farci (Mini transat 2023), and Cecilia Zorzi (upcoming star in the Mini class 2024), got together for the Romaxdue, by winning the gold in the Proto category.
It was a fun mix, Francesco used to race with a Ginto, a Mini well known to be hard to get in light breeze, and Cecilia races on a scow boat, Eki, a WIP 6.5.
Francesco said: “I did not know what to expect from a scow boat, especially because the initial part of the race was charatherised by light wind, however I have to admit that it was a nice surprise. It was quiet fast and easy to manage, much more than expected.”
Cecilia added: “It has been a nice surprise to race with Francesco. From the first mile, it seemed like we raced together since day one, in reality it was our first time together. We figured many things out and Francesco’s input has been really helpful”.
Cecilia will keep on going racing to achieve her objective of the Mini Transat 2025, while Francesco is exploring new opportunities. He is rigging his old family boat, and Ropeye is certainly helping him. He said: “Even if I now have different needs from a Mini 6.5, I still find extremely useful to apply Ropeye in my old family boat, even if I am not so concerned about the weight, I am really focus on avoiding to drill holes on the old deck, and Ropeye provides the perfect solution to have a strong attachment point, yet not needing to drill. When the deck and the freeboard start to age, it might be dangerous to start drilling here and there, because the risk on water infiltration is always present. However, by utilizing Ropeye, you are safe on this respect”.
